Dominikanerkloster / Museumkrems
The Dominican Church in Krems was originally built in the 13th century and has since undergone numerous changes in both appearance and function. The first two pieces from this nine-part series rely on stamping and layering ink blooms on tissue paper to encourage inquiry into the building’s flamboyant past. The third piece, in which thick layers of ink spill out of the recognizable façade, invokes the dark periods that the building has witnessed. The last three pieces featured here were created by leaving the inked outline in the rain for varied lengths of time – hinting at the erosion of both material and memory over the long life of this 13th century building.
This series was created during my 11-week residency in Krems, Austria (AiR Lower Austria).
